IMPORTANT NOTE OF CAUTION FOR PIANO BUYERS
Online marketplaces—including Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist—have become increasingly problematic due to scams and deceptive listings.
On Facebook, many fake piano ads originate from legitimate-looking accounts that have been hacked, making scams harder to detect. Craigslist is even more challenging due to complete poster anonymity, allowing some dealers to pose as private sellers to bypass advertising rules.
Most importantly, many scams are not designed to immediately take money. Instead, they are created to collect personal information—such as phone numbers, email addresses, or home addresses—which can later be used for identity theft or harassment, especially when paired with social media data.
Even experienced buyers are being caught off guard. Please exercise caution, verify sellers carefully, and protect your personal information.
